About us
Shalom Cambridge is a grassroots coalition of Jewish and Israeli residents, workers, and students in Cambridge, Massachusetts, building a more inclusive city for everyone.
Who we are
We are neighbors: parents and students, longtime residents and newcomers, small business owners, and professionals. We come from many Jewish traditions and hold a range of political views. What we share is a love for this city and a wish to see Jewish life here thrive.
Our vision
We envision a Cambridge where being Jewish or Israeli is celebrated as part of our city's diversity. We want to live in a city with respect for all, where we build relationships and friendships between the many communities that make Cambridge what it is.
Our mission
Shalom Cambridge is a grassroots coalition of people who live, work, and study in Cambridge. We offer an informed voice to our city and school leaders, build relationships across communities, and foster an understanding of complex issues around Israel, its neighbors, and the Jewish experience in Cambridge. We want a city that is welcoming to Jews and Israelis, where people with different viewpoints can listen to and learn from each other. We stand against antisemitism and anti-Israeli hate.
What we do
- Meet with city councillors, School Committee members, and school staff
- Share statements on local issues that affect our community
- Put together voter information at election time
- Keep a library of resources for families, educators, and neighbors
- Host conversations and get-togethers with other community groups
